Hammerschlagen // Nagelspielen

Whatever you want to call it, this is not a game for the uncoordinated. This time, I incorporated the holy quadrality of recyclables, paint, sharpie and airbrush to complete this piece. Thanks for checking it out! Distilled process below.

Jen Holding Wolf & Lasers

Youth-inspired mixed media painting that is finished after 2 years of off-and-on attention but it came together in the end. The end result is an eclectic mixture of lace, driftwood, pages and paint that seeks to capture the wild bond between a girl and her dog.

Slappin Around Paint

falling sky
This one is a collection of happy accidents. The direction I gave myself was ‘clouds’ so…. check. Initially there was a giant drip from going overboard with a spray bottle but it fortuitously morphed into an intentional fluid light from the sky.

Abyssal Zone + Bunnies

rabbit angler lavaflies
The first stages — sketching & vellum cut outs for adding in lava-ish butterflies. I wanted something a little bio-luminescent to add in some more color.

hare abyss lava
Finished I believe?! I’m really happy with the colors.

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb, AMIRITE?

Im busy
So this is a time when I could just take advantage of technology and upload a video instead of making a lesser quality .gif, but if I produce my own .gif I feel more entitled to using a hard “g” when I pronounce it.
Updates are less and less, but I am still producing things! I started/recovered 4 canvases and have at least 2 or 3 real projects to undertake. Hopefully April/May will be fruitful and become almost annoying in the amount of posts! Wishful thinking!

A Brush with Death

paint brush paintbrush
I always like to poke around and see what other hu-mans have in their studios so I figured I could extend the same courtesy with my current brush set. (Click the image for a larger view if you are interested in seeing the number/size on the brush.)
photoshop brushes
If I am not painting in acrylic with those brushes,  I am using this brush set (Daarken Brushes Full Set) in Photoshop and tinkering with the settings – I like to set the minimum diameter for the first brush pretty low so the size varies with the pen pressure of the Wacom tablet I use.
wacom tablet
It’s a fairly simply tablet but it does the trick – I don’t think I would be nearly as efficient if I didn’t have the pen to hold on to when drawing digitally. Brushes.

Killin’ Canvas

killin' canvas
It kinda looks like a tree, right? But like… a badass one pre or post epic drama? It is.
